Taro Fujisawa on Glenn Gould

“The purpose of art, is not the release of a momentary ejection of adrenalin but is, rather, the gradual, lifelong construction of a state of wonder and serenity.”

Ah!

1949 Clifford Coffin @Conde Nast Archives

I am what I am

Time without consequence

Sometimes I fell like I'm drowning
Actually it's more like most of the time
But every now and then when I'm sleeping
I still have a dream that I'm flying
And I wake up crying

Eat Your Makeup

Hermes windows

Australian lighting designer Christopher Boots seems to be behind those wonderful windows at Hermes. Vitrine d'Artist program, from the maison, wanted to recreate futuristic holiday scenes based on its annual holiday theme, Metamorphosis.
"A pearlescent Kelly bag is suspended amid an icy-blue backdrop. And diminutive perfume bottles perch on tiny pedestals as his frosty Sugar Bomb pendants rain down from an emerald sky. Each installment is contained, like a still-life painting, within a gilded frame." writes AD http://www.architecturaldigest.com

Paper isn't dead

A growing number of new magazines are reaching outlets lately. Paper isn't dead. The idea amongst some of them: they look like books, they broaden the amount and size of pictures and they weight more than what you used to see years ago.
Some of them:
The Outpost (Lebanon) http://www.the-outpost.com
FAT (Finland) http://www.fat-magazine.com
CookBook (Madrid) http://cookbookmagazine.es
They use quirky linguistic touches and play new rules throughout it's content. Check The issue 05 of The Outpost: The possibility of Warming our Hearts

Developed by former social media expert, Charlie Osmond, Triptease is a social and visual antidote to the text-heavy review sites currently available online.

Malin & Goetz

The idea behind Malin + Goetz was to make the increasingly complicated skincare landscape more navigable. I first saw their products in a quick trip to NY some years ago and felt how smells and richy textures were, let's say, helpful as NY is so challenging that showering with their geranium body wash really felt like getting up fresh again! Malin and Goetz met at a bar 14 years ago. They use natural ingredients and a simple packaging. Problem-solution says at their website, and yes, give a try to their cellular renewal cream and see how yo feel in a coulple weeks! "If you start with a great and thorough cleanser, it eliminates the need for a lot of other products," Malin says. "I don't think that's a male thing or a female thing."

Being proud of my brother & sisters!

How comes that a six-year-old boy wants to play violin? My grandfather had a music store called Sibelius in my hometown. He was selling pianos, guitars and the most common instruments. When it comes to violins, my grandma displayed some small-sized ones at the entrance. They looked so cute! My brother then started asking for one. And has been working so hard since then! Had great professors and masterclasses till he finally entered the Menouhin Academy. I just found this on the net. Hope that you enjoy this video!

Perfect basics with some edge: Lna tee's

LNA are the must-have T-shirts right now! Founded in  2007 by Lauren Alexander and April Leight, the DNA of the brand was born with original PR skills that made the T-shirts be worn by the favourite ever stars from California and all around the USA. Started with the idea of creating the perfect men’s tee for women, LNA began as a basic T-shirt line that focused on fit, color, and the perfect cotton. But suddenly, the perfect tee was at Barneys New York, Madison, and Henri Bendel. With a collection that now includes everything, LNA have clear their initial goal: designing wardrobe staples with a twist. “Our focus is always finding a new way to put our own spin on basics. Every season comes new inspiration and a new twist”.

Camper rocks!

After the 2008 collaboration with Jaime Hayon, Maria Blaisse and Alfredo Häberli, Camper has produced Bernhard Willhelm from the school of Anvers in this foutrth collaboration. Sneakers feature surfboard inspired wave trainers always in auster materials that remind us of the nature of Mallorca’s vast land and always linked with creativity and talent of the young designer. Dazed Digital speak to Willhelm about the inspirations behind the pieces and their working relationship:
“Dazed Digital: Why did surfboards inspire you for an Autumn/Winter collection?
Bernhard Willhelm: Surfboards (boldness and graphics) inspired the 'wave' trainers, also the specially developed wave sole refers to the sea - like in a wave you can look right through. For the woman's collection the inspiration was David Bowie, the classical men's shoe in two colours with a high heel. The same shape we also made in pleated velvet.
DD: You’ve said you use lasts for more than one season if they’re good. Were any of the lasts from previous collections used for this one? For which shoes?
Bernhard Willhelm: You can use good lasts for a lifetime. We developed this special wave sole for the trainers with Camper together for this AW 10-11 season, only for men's. It was a very complected procedure to make this happen, and we will continue to use this last and sole for the coming seasons as well. For this season all lasts are new!
DD: This is Camper’s 4th collaboration with you. Why has your relationship with them lasted this long?
Bernhard Willhelm: We want to build an image for BW shoes with Camper Together, and an image for Camper Together with Bernhard Willhelm, so far we did great shoes together and we will continue to work now for the fifth collection.
DD: How did the collaboration come about to begin with?
Bernhard Willhelm: Linda Loppa, former head of the Antwerp Royal Academy proposed my name - et voilà.
DD: What do you like about the brand?
Bernhard Willhelm: It's like a garden with orange trees. Go to Majorca, then you know.
DD: How did the complex designs for A/W 2010 challenge the production team?
Camper: New designs are always new challenges on a technical level but in Camper we are always open for innovation and new creativity”

Fujifilm: technology meets analogical

This utterly unexpected camera has just stolen the show to other SLRs… FinePix X100 is a compact camera with traditional analogue control dials that hides an ground-breaking technology in a retro body with an amazing look. Although Fujifilm is well-known in the field of compact cameras, it has long been producing uniqueness for enthusiasts and professionals and it has been concentrating in its Super CCD sensor technology. A cult classic from the brand? The F30 and F31 Fd compacts as excellent low-light performers. It uses traditional analogue-style control dials for shutter speed, aperture and exposure compensation, with an electronic manual focus ring. But the biggest story is its innovative hybrid viewfinder, direct-vision viewfinder and a high-resolution electronic viewfinder.

Espadrilles forever!

The classic espadrille pump is being key next summer as a perfect match for chino bottomweights in men's trends. Always associated with summer, proposals vary from lace up forms to stripes in navy and neutral colors. Printed fabrics are also emerging as well as camouflage and Hawaiian floral.
As traditional natural canvas uppers and raffia rope soles remain the manufacture of choice for THE espadrille style, but some new forms are also coming out in suede and woven leather that makes them wearable all year long!

Cas Patro March in Mallorca

Somwhere hidden in Cala Deia, just in front of the open sea, Cas Patro March is a small "chiringuito de playa" where you can have fresh fish and the typical paella. The quality of the kitchen is a great value! Tables are made of wood and follow the rocky line sorrounding the right side of the small beach. Quite a long time ago we went there to celebrate Sant Joan, the magical night of the 24th June, and as Cas Patro March was closed that day, we improvised a dinner with white wine. Such a beautiful memory!! If you are planning to go, call in advance and try to walk from Deia Town where the public cloth - washing is. The way is full of olive trees and the sand is almost red. Thank you V!!

Deia town: view on the church
Foradada: the hole on the rock is amazing and you can walk there!
Balearic Islands have always been one of the most known turistic destinations for a sun&sea mood. After living there for some years I can tell it is far more than that, culture is all around and rural areas and interior small towns are, to me, stunning. We've had the pleasure to vist Deia and spend some days there. We fully recharged batteries and wanted to share with you some of the landscapes that we've seen near  Costa de la Tramuntana, the highest part of the island at the west coast. Enjoy!!

Rauschenberg & Jones

To the pre-Harvey Milk generation, Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns defined the quiet cool of gay culture. In New York, Johns met a number of other artists including the composer John Cage, the choreographer Merce Cunningham, and the painter Robert Rauschenberg. While working together creating window displays for Tiffany’s, Johns and Raushenberg explored the New York art scene. “To me, Rauschenberg and Johns are mythological as two serious, strong people, sharing ideas, and creating work together. I find that deeply inspiring” says Francesco Vezzoli.

ROAR! Love of motorcycling & adding-value brand

“Deus ex machina” references to what is expected to make something newsworthy in any imaginable term. This Australian company took the name to label the work done on each motorcycle that gets into their workshop as “wow!” and leaves as “WOOOW!”. You see, in Australia, it seems you can purchase this Kawasaki W650s and Yamaha SR400s but turned into the nicest custom machine you could dream of. In words of Dare Jennings, one of the creators of DEUS and founder of Australian surf label Mambo “It’s the most pretentious name for a bike shop ever… It’s a great name: it means god, it has ‘sex machine’ in it, and it has all these implications”. The brand celebrates a custom culture that appeared in the 1940s and has been revived. Motorcycles are the core of the business, but the brand also sells clothing, accessories and books, and displays hi-fi, cars and artwork. The store is amazing & real, a warehouse style. Check the Deus Canggu bike shop in Bali.

Marvelous sunset!

Foixa: in words of Josep Pla: “delicia recóndita y pura maravilla”. On the right side of the Ter, this magical pearl on the lower Empordà area is divided in three zones: the town near the castle from the XI century, a church from the late Gothic quite nearby, and the “Masones” neibourhood. The best of it all is that it is located 15 minutes away from the sea and that from this tiny town one can get the energy of this magical zone, concentrated in one sole sight! Rethanks Isidro!
